Denmark is a small country in Northern Europe. The country covers an area slightly smaller than the combined areas of Vermont and New Hampshire. Our Nielsen ancestors came from the peninsula of Jutland (area of 9,186 square miles). They lived on the east side of Jutland in the providences of Hjrring and Aarhus. The area is a picture-book land of small green farms, blue lakes, and white beaches. The gently rolling countryside is neat and carefully tended. There are many parks and gardens. Old windmills, thatched farmhouses, modern homes, and ancient castles dot the countryside. Denmark is almost surrounded by water, so has a mild, damp climate. The average summer temperature is 60 F, and the winter about 32 F.
Ethel Woolsey stated: The low lands were flooded in the past. It is felt that much of Carl Emil Nielsen ancestrial line was lost. |
Sine Olene Jensen's parents came from the Hjrring area.
Carl Emil Nielsen's parents came from the Aarhus area.
